Blast from the Past: Downtown Manhattan 2001

This picture was from a trip I took to New York City in March 2001. The World Trade towers were still standing at this point, and one of the buildings I was working in while in Brooklyn afforded me this beautiful view of downtown Manhattan.

Blast from the Past: The Mouse and the Corn

I can’t even remember for the life of me when I took this picture, but I really like this one. We were camping somewhere in North Dakota in the early 2000s, and we decided to see if we could get any little creatures to photograph.  We threw an ear of corn out and left it alone for a while, and sure enough, a little while later we caught this little mouse looking for a meal!

Casey and Linsey Engagement: Part 3

I am finally done! I know I said in my last post there were 9 left, but Linsey specifically asked for another picture that I was going to leave out...since it’s their pictures, I decided to do it for her. :D There might be a couple more shots down the road, a more formal shot for a newspaper announcement, perhaps, and a fun one we planned, but otherwise we are done. I think Casey and Linsey are happy with them, and that was the point!

And here is a shot that Casey specifically requested. Casey wanted to see what the Building picture would look like flipped around. I had to fix the numbers so they faced the right way, but I agree with him I like the bottom left to top right look better also.

Casey and Linsey Engagement: Part 2

Welcome to Part 2 of Casey and Linsey’s Engagement pictures.  This has been a real learning experience for me, as I wasn’t sure how long it would take to sort through the over 100 shots we took and pick my favorites and touch them up! It is taking longer than I thought it would, although I am learning a few tricks to move faster. Here are the next 8 pictures I have finished! Look for the final 9 pictures this weekend!

PS - I got the 6 pictures from Part 1 printed out in matte, glossy, and metallic finishes to check them out.  The metallic finish is amazing...it reminds me of the paint on your car.  It is a little more expensive and the finish is more easily damaged, but I think it is my new favorite!

Casey and Linsey Engagement: Part 1

Today I am putting up the first 6 pictures from the photo shoot we did for Casey and Linsey’s Engagement! There will probably be a few more posts with them, as there are several more I am not done working on, plus we have a more formal shoot planned for later on.  We had a great time yesterday shooting this, even though we got a little cold! I hope you like them!

You see Linsey distracting Casey with a kiss while she moves his chess piece? I call this one “Cheater Linsey!” smile

Blast from the Past: Roatan, Honduras

Back in February 2007, I had the opportunity to take an unbelievable vacation to Honduras and visit some friends of mine that live there. I spent part of my time on a little island just north of the coast of Honduras named Roatan.  It was pretty touristy, but you need to spend a few days doing that, right? It was absolutely amazing snorkeling and lounging on the beaches. My only complaint? It was recommended that you not bring expensive camera equipment to Central America, as it could make you a target! I did the best I could with my Canon Powershot A540. Here are my favorite pictures from my trip to Roatan!

Yes, that’s me! smile

Blast from the Past: Sunset Outside my Window

Have you ever just walked outside one day and looked at the sky and been blown away? That happened to me in August 2006.  I was walking out of my apartment building here in Fargo, and the sky was a color that I had never seen before, and since then have never seen again! I have seen beautiful sunsets before, but that night, the entire sky seemed like it was on fire! I ran inside and grabbed my camera, and got a few shots. It’s too bad I didn’t have time to drive out into the country to get some more interesting shots.  Unfortunately, these colors only lasted a few minutes, so I had to make do with these.  These have not been enhanced in any way.  These are the original pictures straight from my camera.

Blast From the Past: WTC Tribute in Light

Welcome to the latest Blast from the Past!  I took this picture of downtown Manhattan from Brooklyn Heights, NY, across the East River. This was in March 2002, and marked the 6-month anniversary of the WTC attacks. There were 2 huge beams of light aimed into the sky to represent where the towers used to be.  It was a magnificent sight, and I am glad I happened to be there at the time.  I was still using my old Pentax ZX-30 at the time, and I was shooting with 200 speed film, with an exposure length of 30 seconds.

Equipment Update : Pentax AF 360 FGZ Flash

I am quite excited! I received my new Pentax AF 360 FGZ Flash on Thursday! I have used add on flash units in the past, but this is the first time I have had one with so many functions and flexibility. This new flash communicates with my camera, zooms in and out as I zoom my lens in and out, and helps my camera with its settings when I choose to bounce the flash off the ceiling, etc. I am having a lot of fun playing with it and seeing what new options it brings me. It is much more powerful than other flashes I have used in the past, so it will hopefully give me broader range.  I have also just received the Lumiquest Promax system, which allows me to attach various reflectors to my flash unit, such as white, gold, and silver reflectors, softening the power of the flash and offering slight colors to the flash light.

Mike and Chelsey Kremer

Here is a wedding photo that I created for my brother and his wife Chelsey. The original photo was taken by Lisa Helseth, but I touched it up and added a photo theme using Photoshop.  They were very happy when I gave them this already framed! smile
